League Rules

Oak Creek offers adult leagues year-round. Each league runs for seven weeks (unless otherwise noted). You play the same day and time, based on the league(s) you choose.  Match schedules will be e-mailed once registration closes.

Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the start of the league session to qualify for a refund (credit to your Oak Creek account).

Any refund due will be given as a credit to your Oak Creek account. Refunds back to credit cards include a $5 processing fee.

Tennis singles and doubles leagues are available.

Singles - you register as an individual. Oak Creek assigns you an opponent for each match.

Progressive Doubles – you register as an individual. Oak Creek assigns you a new partner as well as opponents for each match. You play with a different partner for each weekly match.

If you are interested in being on our sub list for our leagues, please contact the Tennis Shop Front Desk at 972 466-6389.

Rules, Scoring, and the Comen Tiebreaker

Age Requirement: Players must be at least 18 years of age by the last day of league play.

Check In: Players check in at the tennis center front desk for each of your matches. The front desk staff will give one player for your court a can of match balls. If your match is away at one of the Satellite locations, you must stop by anytime before your match to retrieve your match tennis balls. Winners report the score to the front desk at the end of each match (individual score sheets will no longer accompany each can of ball).

Scoring: All matches will continue to be the best 2 of 3. If tied at 6 all in a set, then play a Coman set tie breaker, first to 7 points (win by 2 points). See additional explanation for Coman tiebreaker at bottom of this page. Use no-ad scoring, the first player/team to win 4 points wins the game. At deuce (40 All), the receiver for a singles match has the choice of receiving serve from the Ad or Deuce side. For doubles, the receiving team chooses which player receives the serve.

Match Results: Winners report scores and return balls to the pro shop front desk.

Points Awarded: Match results are recorded as WIN (1 point) or LOSS (0 points), with no point differentiation between a 2-set and a 3-set match. Any match unplayed involving a reschedule, will be recorded as ‘0’ to the rescheduler and ‘1’ to the reschedulee. Any match unplayed as a result of factors other than a reschedule (bad weather, both opponents no-showing, etc) will be recorded as a 0-0 tie. Head-to-head results, then total games lost, will break final standing ties.

Awards: Oak Creek Tennis Center gift certificates will be awarded for 1st place winners.

  • Rescheduled Matches: The player requesting the rescheduled match is responsible for contacting the tennis shop front desk to notify of the rescheduled match. If you are unable to find a sub and your opponent does not want to reschedule, then you must forfeit that match. Matches canceled due to inclement weather are to be made-up and rescheduled with your opponent. Please contact the tennis shop front desk to notify of the rescheduled rain out match.
  • Forfeit/Default: You forfeit your match by arriving more than 15 minutes past your scheduled match time or by no-showing. You may ask your opponent(s) if they are willing to re-schedule. We encourage you to attempt to contact them and do so. Additional rules on league schedule.
  • Getting a Sub:  You are responsible for finding your own sub. There is a binder with names and contact information of players who are interested in filling-in for league players at the tennis center front desk. Please call or stop by the tennis pro shop if you would like to view this league sub list. When you have a sub, make sure to forward their information to your opponent(s) for the affected match and contact the tennis center front desk with the sub's name and contact information.
  • League Withdrawal: Before signing up for a league, please consider carefully whether or not your other activities will conflict with your match schedule. If injury, illness, or family emergency does require you to withdraw from a league once play begins, notify Oak Creek immediately. If possible, please find someone to take your place for the remaining league session.

Court Etiquette: All players are expected to show up on time for matches. During match play, if a point is under dispute, the person who received the ball has the final say. Good Sportsmanship is not an option! Complaints received by the tennis shop staff on poor personal conduct or racquet abuse, may result in a player’s suspension from future leagues.

  • How a Comen Tiebreaker Works: The Coman Tiebreak procedure is used for all tiebreaks played during a match.
  • Set Tie Break: First to win 7 points by 2 points wins “Game “and “Set”.
  • The player whose turn it is to serve shall serve the first point from the deuce court. After the first point, the players shall change ends and the following two points shall be served by the opponent(s) (in doubles, the player of the opposing team due to serve next) starting from the ad court. After this, each player/team shall serve alternately for two consecutive points (starting from the ad court); changing ends after every four points, until the completion of the tie break game. Switch ends after points 1,5,9,13, 17...…. and at the conclusion.
  • Summary: Switch sides after 1st point to the deuce court • Then switch sides every 4 points thereafter.
